Premium vacuum kitchen storage brand VAKUEN
Patented vacuum technology extends food storage life by up to five times
Expanding sales channels through Amazon and department store pop-ups
“Annual sales expected to reach KRW 15 billion, with vacuum technology expanding into new categories”
“VAKUEN takes its name from the German word for ‘vacuum.’ When vacuum technology is applied to food storage containers, ingredients can stay fresh for up to five times longer. Going forward, we plan to expand the application of our vacuum technology into a wider range of products, including vacuum coffee brewers.”
Byungjun Jung, CEO of MAKERVILLE, told the Seoul Economic Daily on the 10th that VAKUEN has differentiated itself from other food storage container brands by targeting the niche market for vacuum storage.
VAKUEN is a premium vacuum food storage container brand launched by MAKERVILLE in April 2020. Although a single set is priced at more than KRW 200,000, placing it at the premium end of the category, the number of consumers choosing VAKUEN has continued to grow.
The key lies in its vacuum technology. A patented pump built into the lid allows air to be easily removed from the container, creating a vacuum that can keep food fresh two to five times longer than conventional storage containers.
“Our core technology allows users to create a vacuum inside the container with a single touch,” Jung explained. “VAKUEN is also simpler to open and close than conventional airtight containers.”
As word of mouth spread, VAKUEN reached cumulative sales of 7 million units and KRW 25 billion in revenue within approximately three years of its launch.
This year, VAKUEN successfully entered Amazon and has recently expanded into department store pop-up events. While the brand had previously focused primarily on group-buying campaigns led by influencers and home shopping channels, it began diversifying its distribution network in response to growing customer demand for greater accessibility.
“When we opened our first pop-up store, we also hosted a live commerce event that achieved the highest sales ever recorded in the food storage container category,” Jung said. “With a significant expansion of our sales channels this year, we expect annual revenue to reach KRW 15 billion.”
